Leguminous trees as low- maintenance ornamentals

ثبت نشده
چکیده

Leguminous plants include both herbaceous and woody types. both shrubs and tree’;. Many of thex shrubs and twzs have been used as ornament&; many others hew the potential, in appearance and adaptation. to complement existing plantings. Most leguminous plants are capable of gmwth on soils lacking nitmgcn by forming symbiotic associations with bacteria (Khirohiwn) that iniect the plant root, forming specialized structures known as ntxlules. The bacteria in these nodule\ convert atmocpheric nitrogen gas to ammonia, which is readily used by the pliux. This process is tenned nitrogen tixation. Although the plant may grow most rapidly with added fenili/er nitrogen. in many aces it will grow nearly a7 fat with little or no nitrogen supplied from the soil. When the nodule asswiations are effective. plants require no ieniliar nitrogen for growth.

Interactions among leguminous trees, crops and weeds in a no-till alley cropping system

Trees improve the soil quality and their rapid growth in the tropics make agroforestry systems potentially effective for establishing low-input agricultural systems in this region. This study assessed the effects of the biophysical interactions among leguminous trees, weeds, cotton and maize in an alley cropping system. The experiment comprised six treatments: Clitoria + Gliricidia; Acacia ...

Ureide Production by N2-fixing and Non-n2-fixing Leguminous Trees

Xylem-sap and stem and leaf extracts from 35 species, comprising 14 genera, of leguminous trees were analyzed for ureides, nitrate and a-amino acids. Trees were either inoculated with Rhizobium or fertilized with NH4NO3. The dominant form of soluble N in stem and leaf extracts and xylem sap was a -amino acids. Certain non-N2-fixing species, i.e. Tamarindus indica and Adenanthera pavonina, produ...

Evaluating the nodulation status of leguminous species from the Amazonian forest of Brazil.

Numerous leguminous species are used or have potential uses for timber production, pharmacological products, or land reclamation. Through N(2)-fixation, many leguminous trees contribute to the N-balance of tropical wetlands and rainforests. Therefore, studies of the N(2)-fixation ability of leguminous species appear to be crucial for the better use and conservation of these resources. The globa...

Screening for and purification of novel self-aggregatable lectins reveal a new functional lectin group in the bark of leguminous trees.

A solubility-insolubility transition assay was used to screen the bark and stems of seven leguminous trees and plants for self-aggregatable lectins. Novel lectins were found in two trees, Robinia pseudoacacia and Wisteria floribunda, but not in the leguminous plants. The Robinia lectin was isolated from coexisting lectin by combined affinity chromatographies on various sugar adsorbents. The pur...
